Letters from Julia
Julia writes to her sister who has gone to collage,

Dear Emma,
Hi Emma! It’s been so lonely without you here. How are your classes going? I wonder if it’s hard being away from home like you are. It’s only been 4 months since you left, but it feels like 4 years! Tell me all about everything. I need to know what’s happening. You haven’t written to me in two weeks! Anyways, just write back soon.
Your lil’ sis,
Julia
Dear Julia,
Hi Julia! Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written. I have a big exam in a few days, and I’ve been studying for it. My classes are going great! It’s been hard away from home. I miss you guys so much! How are you doing? 4th grade ends in just a week, right? I bet you can’t wait for summer break!
Best of luck,
Emma
Dear Emma,
You finally wrote back! I missed you so much! I can’t wait for you to come home for a week over your break! My last day of school is tomorrow! My work seems hard, but It must be nothing even close to what you have to do over there in college! I can’t wait for you to come home! Also, tell me if you pass, although I know that you’ll do well no matter what.
Happy early Birthday,
Julia
Dear Julia,
How are you doing? Is summer break fun? I passed my test! Also, you know that guy I’ve been dating, Ryan? We’re engaged! Just three days ago, on my 22nd birthday, he proposed to me while we were studying together! He says he wants to come with me when I visit you guys in a few days, if it’s ok with you and mom and dad. Please tell me if he can come.
Sincerely,
Emma
Dear Emma,
OMG! Congrats on your engagement! Summer break is fun, and I’m doing well. Nice job on your test. I can't wait to see you tomorrow, and Ryan can come, too! I can't believe you’re engaged!
See you in a day,
Julia
Dear Emma,
Hi! You only left an hour ago, and I already miss you! Ryan is awesome! It was so fun when you came, but it all went by so quick. I can't believe you only have one year left of college, and then you can get out of that stinky MIT dorm and finally start being a real mechanical engineer! I can't wait to see you again in winter!
XOXO,
Julia
Dear Julia,
How are you doing? Just one more year! I can leave this not very stinky dorm, and live my life! Are you ready for 5th grade in a few weeks? Last year of elementary school! I can’t wait to see you in winter, I miss you so much already!
Your big sis,
Emma
Dear Emma,
Hi! How are you? It’s almost time for 5th grade! I’m nervous and excited at the same time, it’s such a strange feeling I always get right before a new grade starts. Also, guess what? We’re moving to massachusetts! I’ll miss my friends in California, but I can write to them, too! Not only are we moving to Massachusetts, but to Sterling! It’s only an hour from Cambridge, so we can visit you more often!
Sincerely,
Julia
Dear Julia,
Hi Julia, I’m doing fine. How’s Massachusetts and 5th? I won't be able to write for a while, because this is my last piece of paper, and you may have heard of the supply chain issue in cambridge. I also have another exam coming up, so I’ll need all the paper in my notebook to take notes, and my roommate never has and still won't lend me anything. Elizabeth can be really rude sometimes. Once, I had to miss class twice in a row because I had a cold, and she would get up from her computer games to call Ryan to bring me some ibuprofen. Well, I’m running out of space on this paper, so maybe send me some with the envelope in your next letter?
Best wishes,
Emma
Dear Emma,
I’m sorry if I didn’t give you enough paper. We don’t have that much at home either, and dad only let me send you a few stationeries. I can only write on stationary too, so this is going to be short, but 5th is going well and I’m doing great.
Good luck on your exam,
Julia
Dear Julia,
Happy spooktober, Julia. Thanks for the paper. We’re starting to get more of the stuff at school, so I can write some full-length letters soon. In the meantime, good luck, don't die. I might see you on halloween if mom goes through with the engagement party she said she might host.
Happy Halloween,
Emma
Dear Emma,
Happy halloween! Just 11 more days, and I can show off my creepy glowing mummy costume! Also, we have paper now, so I can write full length letters soon, too! I hope I see you at the engagement party, but until then, I guess I’ll just keep saving up for a phone so we can eventually text. The iphone X is so expensive! $350 for a phone? It’s ridiculous! I only have $80 so far…
Sincerely,
Julia
Dear Julia,
How are you! Halloween is in just 2 days! I’ll be coming to the house in just a few days, and I’ll arrive on halloween morning. The engagement party will be a few hours, and after I get to go trick or treating with you! I can’t wait to see you! I’ll be staying for 4 days and leave the morning after your birthday.
Happy hallobirthday,
Emma
Dear Emma,
Thank you so much for my birthday gift! I’m 100 steps closer to the iphone X now! More than halfway there! Plus, someone in class gave me $10 for every snickers bar I gave him! Only $120 Left! Trick or treating was so fun! I can’t wait to see you on Thanksgiving! Oh, and, guess what? Mom and Dad say that if I do the dishes and laundry every day until christmas, we’ll get a puppy! Can you believe it? A real living breathing puppy! I can already feel the cute dog cuddling with me when I sleep!
Sincerely,
Julia
Dear Julia,
Good luck with your dog job! I hope you can get him! But, until you do, you can always play with my new bichon frise! She’s so adorable! Her name is cauliflower! Hopefully I’ll see you on thanksgiving, and you can say hi to cauliflower! My roommate still doesn’t really know how she likes her, but I think they’ll get along, and maybe she won’t be so much of a jerk anymore.
Your pup-loving sister,
Emma
Dear Emma,
EMMA! Are you ok!? I heard about the crash! That drunk driver was a jerk! How can anyone be so reckless!? Not only did you break a leg and 3 ribs, but you’re stuck at your dorm!
Get Well,
Julia
Dear Julia,
Hi sis. I’m fine. I have to stay in my dorm for 3 weeks, but dad told me you guys might come visit me! That guy was a jerk. He totaled my car, too. Not to mention the nightmares, PTSD, I’ll never forgive him. It wasn’t only me, either. Someone else was in the crash with us, and broke his neck. As for the drunk one? Not a scratch. I can’t wait to get better.
Stronger every day,
Emma
Dear Emma,
Glad to hear you're ok! Mom felt bad that our only communication is by mail, and helped me another 100 steps to my iphone X! Just $10 left, and I’ll be mowing the lawn later today! This will be the last letter. I’ll call you in a few days, though. I hope you recover!
Your ol’ pen pal,
Julia
